Can He Fix It?
This is not a new development, but the noises my plumbing makes have been bugging me for some time.

Problem 1: downstairs loo. When the cistern refills, the plumbing makes a sort of low resonant "hummmmmmm" noise, which varies in intensity but can be heard throughout the house. Upstairs loo does not do this.

Unfortunately it was in a quiet mood when I tried to record it this evening, but you can hear it here [.WAV file]. You might just be able to hear the humming if you're using decent headphones or speakers.

Problem 2: this is the really annoying one. When the hot water is run (e.g. for a bath), the header tank has to refill. And it does this *noisily*, again clearly audible throughout the house [.WAV file] - and occasionally by the neighbours!

Problem 3: Turning off the cold taps suddenly causes a "thunk!" to go back through the pipes. I believe this is called water hammer and can be alleviated by some kind of relief device?

Is there a way to fix any of these?
